Luis’ Volunteer Story

I’ve lived in Concord almost my whole life and played soccer competitively. Many of my teammates lived in the Monument area. I became familiar with the difficult situations that some of my friends faced every day. It motivated me to want to help in any way that I can.

I heard about Monument Impact from a friend who told me about all the programs they offered and I thought it would be a great learning experience for me. The staff really embraced me when I first came and that has really made me feel that my time spent here has been worthwhile.

Working on the Monument Impact’s database and helping with planning for the Oct. 4 Health Fair have helped me understand the amount of work it takes for a nonprofit agency to operate effectively. Many of the friends I met growing up, I am still friends with today.

My experiences in the Monument community have helped me see how fortunate I was compared to other people not only in Concord but all over the world. Whatever I do in the future, I will reflect on what I’ve learned at Monument Impact and I will always try to give back to the community I live in.
