“This is my 3rd year helping with VITA and each year I notice more and more familiar faces coming back looking for help demystifying their taxes.  One memorable client this year had very little experience doing taxes because her abusive Ex-husband used to take sole care if their finances.  She had recently taken her kids and escaped his abuse.  She came to us with all sorts of pay stubs and w2-Gs that she didn’t know what to do with.  Providing her with tax advice and empowering her to take hold of her own finances was very gratifying” A.H

“This is my first year with the VITA and it indeed has been a rewarding and humbling experience.  The program is a great way to help out the deserving population which comes from all over the East bay. I did not realize the service I was providing until I actually got to see the faces of the clients when I tell them they are getting a refund.

I experienced this personally when I helped a single mother with three young children to file her taxes and she got a huge refund amount.  She thanked me profusely for the prompt service we provided and exclaimed that this refund money is going to be of immense help to her family. It is a real nice feeling to know you are in a position to help these clients out and maybe even enough to help them out a little financially.  I have gained so much insight by meeting different people and also by interacting with the community.  Lastly, Claudia and all the other volunteers have been so welcoming and helpful that it has really made me feel that my time spent here has been worthwhile. Looking forward to VITA 2017 @ Monument Impact! ” S.K
