In June 2023, we launched our Success Begins at Home campaign to educate residents about the importance of stable housing for families to thrive. Our organizers and canvassers knocked at 887 doors in key districts and sent a mailer to another 2,851 Concord homeowners and tenants.
Through door knocking, tenant organizing, and speaking out at City Council meetings, our community members are winning tenant protections in Antioch and Concord. When we have safe, secure places to live, parents earn more, kids learn better, health and well-being improve, and our communities are stronger.
When community members are civically engaged, they step up to build long-term solutions for improving the lives of their families and neighbors. We met Victor while door-knocking at the Delta View apartment complex in Antioch in 2022. He joined the tenant-organized Delta View Tenant Association and created videos to raise awareness about the substandard living conditions in the complex, including mold, broken pipes and safety issues. Victor took the initiative to call a meeting with 30 tenants to discuss how to improve their living conditions. He collected 50 signatures to bring to the Delta View owner, ROEM Development, highlighting the complex’s ongoing habitability issues.
