The Importance of an ITIN Number

Immigrant families missed out on vital economic supports during the pandemic because they lacked an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) or had not filed Federal income taxes. An ITIN can be used to file for taxes, access tax credits, open a bank account and more.

Free services for applying for an ITIN are available during tax season through United Way Bay Area’s VITA program.
