Elba Velasquez

Elba Velasquez was born in El Salvador, spent much of her childhood in Guatemala, and immigrated to the U.S. with her family in 1986. She came to Monument Impact in 2008 as a student in one of our first computer classes. She was hired to teach the computer classes and then worked in a number of roles from coordinator to workforce manager to her current position as Senior Program Director, helping to grow the technology program that has served over 2500 people. She also started MI’s Emerging Business Support Program, which has helped over 100 businesses become licensed, and helped launch MI’s first computer classes offered in Farsi to the Afghan community.

During the pandemic, Elba worked with staff to expand the online technology curriculum and create the infrastructure for our $2M Monument Relief Fund to provide cash assistance for undocumented community members. Elba focuses on supporting teams, growing our Emerging Business Program by laying the groundwork for our new Lending Circles, and data management to ensure the success of all MI’s programs. Elba loves spending time with her son and dog Oreo. She enjoys Karaoke, flower arranging, and crafting.
